Possibility of LRT Coming to Barrhaven, Kanata, and Stittsville

Talk has begun about the possibility of funding for an expansion of the OC Transpo light rail to include Barrhaven, Kanata, and Stittsville. This would be the 3rd phase of the LRT, coming only once the 1.2 billion dollar phase 2 project has been completed. Premier Doug Ford explained that in order for phase 3 to be possible, the provincial and federal governments would have to split the bill equally, however he see's the value in adding this expansion given the growth in these areas. Phase 3 would not be expected until 2025.

 

Kanata Community Ready to Fight back against Plans for Housing Development on Golf Course

After hearing discussions to replace the 18-hole golf course with housing on the Kanata Golf and Country Club, the residents of Kanata are ready to do whatever it takes to bring these plans to a halt. The Vice President of ClubLink, Robert Visentin argues that the costs of maintaining the course are increasing, while the amount of people golfing is decreasing, however Kanata residents have concerns of their own.

Stittsville Continues To be Strong Real Estate Market

Over the past 5 years, Stittsville has shown strong growth not only in the number of homes being developed in the community, but in the average sale price of those homes being sold.  On average home sale prices have risen approximately 30% according to data from the Ottawa Real Estate Board.  Home price increase are broken down as follows:

Average Home Price 2013: $378,000
Increase: 28.92%

DND Triggering Bells Corners Building Boom

The relocation of the new Department of National Defence headquarters at the old Nortel Campus on Moodie Drive has triggered a number of property developers and business owners to take a renewed interest in Bells Corners.  Currently there are about a third of the expected 10,000 employees occupying the new headquarters.  Its been reported that the city has had discussions with a developer who is considering 2000 new homes for the Bells Corners area - there currently are about 3600 homes in Bells Corners.
